SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program

The SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) is a federally funded initiative by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs designed to reduce suicide risk among Veterans through early intervention, outreach, and community-based support.

Veterans Services of the Carolinas is one of just a few organizations nationwide selected to implement this critical program. We proudly honor the legacy of SSG Parker Gordon Fox, a decorated combat Veteran who died by suicide in 2020, by expanding access to lifesaving care for North Carolina’s military community.

Why This Matters

Veteran suicide is a national crisis, but it is preventable.
SSG Fox SPGP strengthens our ability to:

  • Identify and engage at-risk Veterans
  • Address urgent needs like housing, food, or employment
  • Provide trauma-informed mental health support
  • Build trust through peer mentorship and follow-up care

Through coordinated care, compassionate outreach, and targeted training, we work to interrupt crisis before it escalates.

What the Program Offers

  • Proactive Outreach to At-Risk Veterans
  • Mental Health Screenings and Referrals
  • Peer Support from Certified Specialists
  • Connections to Housing, Employment, and Benefits
  • Suicide Prevention Training for Providers and Partners
  • Short-Term Case Management & Crisis Planning

Whether it’s one conversation or ongoing support, our team is ready to respond with care and discretion.

Who Is Eligible?

Any Veteran who:

  • Is at risk for suicide or experiencing mental health challenges
  • Is not currently enrolled in VA care or needs additional support
