The Mountaineer - Essential workers eligible for free athletic shoes

June 25, 2021 - Veterans Services of the Carolinas has 5,000 pairs of the high-performance athletic shoes that retail for $150 they committed to give away to veterans across North Carolina. The giveaway is the result of a friendship between the OnCloud owners and Operation Gratitude, a nationwide organization with a mission to “forge a strong bond between Americans and their first responder heroes through volunteer service projects, acts of gratitude and meaningful engagements in communities nationwide.”

November 23, 2020 - After a medical discharge from the U.S. Army due to a back injury, Veteran Wendy Huml of Newport struggled to put her life back together. She ended up homeless and without a job, until she encountered Veterans Services of the Carolinas, a nonprofit that assists U.S. veterans and their families. She now has a mobile home and a job. “I’m very thankful for this organization,” Ms. Huml said Thursday. “Thank you doesn’t seem like enough to say for all they’ve done for me.”

 

 

The Mountaineer - ABCCM launches network to support veterans, service members, families

Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) recently announced a major expansion of its Veteran Services of the Carolinas ministry with the launch of NCServes-Western, a coordinated network to provide support and information for veterans, active service members and their families in 12 Western North Carolina counties to more than 40 agencies and providers.
